So, back in April, I posted about Co-Creation, and how that’s part of manifesting, of changing our lives, of drawing in what we want, of working with The Universe. And I used that word because that’s the word we’re taught. The word we know.

When we do these studies, when we dive into this kind of philosophy, this type of practical magic, we are handed down the words that others have used before. We’re sort of stuck with that. Certain words don’t work for me, though. And that’s my shit. Just because I don’t jibe with it doesn’t make the word wrong. It just means I need a work-around.

We know I’m not a fan of the word Gratitude. I prefer Appreciation. Other words that irk me in my work are Manifesting, Abundance and, yes, Co-Creation. Why? Because they are sort of linked to Toxic Positivity or Malignant Optimism. And they feel rigid to me. Like there’s only one way to do it. That ain’t the case.

I don’t know about you, but I am ready for big change. So I took advantage of this Year of the Double Fire Horse with the Lion’s Gate Portal and the solar eclipse and every other thing going on in the sky. Why not? I kind of figured if everybody is working on manifesting something, couldn’t hurt to work with that energy. So I got back in touch with some of the folks in that space. Some of whom I enjoy. Others I will never get their appeal.

So, there was a fair bit of talk about co-creating to manifest something.

I started to think about the term and why it bugged me so much. And it came down to ego.

Ego is something we want to remove as much as possible as we work to expand our lives and draw in what we want, including those big changes.

Think about what a creator is? The Creator is how some refer to God. We don’t have to go that big, though.

A creator makes something out of nothing. A painter takes a blank canvas and transforms it into art. A sculptor takes stone and shapes it into art. A writer takes a blank page and turns it into art. Something out of nothing.

But we aren’t nothing.

And because we have this power as a creator or co-creator, ego becomes involved at some point. Because how great are you?! Look at what you’ve created! And there’s a hierarchy there — something from nothing. Oh, the power! And our ego loves any sort of fuel that will make it feel important. That’s its nature. It’s not a personality flaw nor does it make you a bad person, you’re just a human with an ego. And egos are like fucking gremlins. Don’t get them wet or feed them after midnight, right? Our ego will get in the way of getting what we want — or worse, keeping what we want.

This is why I prefer Collaboration.

Collaboration feels much more authentic, much more real, much more balanced. And here’s one of the reasons why:

When we collaborate, we are both bringing our parts together to create something more. This is true in so many ways. How does a home get built? The collaboration of the architect, contractors and trades people. Each bringing something to create something more. The choreographer and the dancers collaborate to create something more, and the abilities or limitations of each help shape what ends up on stage.

This is the beauty of collaborating.

Getting back to manifesting…and I really need to find a word replacement for that; give me your suggestions in the comments…when we collaborate with The Universe, a Higher Power, The Powers That Be, our Higher Self, we are both bringing something to that party. We are working together. The hierarchy is removed. The ego isn’t needed. And that makes the whole process a lot less complicated.

Let me share with you a silly example of how I learned this and how it’s working for me:
