Co-Create

Be in Cahoots with The Universe

Hi, I’m Sandra. Welcome to The Happyist. Here we transform through holistic, eudaimonic happiness. Best part? It’s easy and kind of fun.

We talked a little last week about collaborating with The Universe and The Powers That Be in order to be in more in our power. It’s an important thing to remember, that our energy is mixing with that of Higher Powers. And when we elevate our energy — raise our vibe — The Universe rises to meet us, too.

Yes, this is a little woo. But tell me that you haven’t noticed it’s true. Have you ever been in the flow? That’s what I’m talking about. Maybe we don’t realize it, or call it such, but that’s when we’re in sublime, divine co-creation.

We tend to view things as competition, though. Whether we’re competing with ourselves or others. We see things as win or lose rather than just having the experience. It’s about the destination, not the journey. And we miss out on so much when we see it this way.

And it’s not like I was born seeing it any other way. Not at all. I’m an American girl, a native of Los Angeles who spent a fair share of my career in Hollywood. Only the Olympics has more winners and losers. No matter how sexy they try to paint it, it’s not.

You know who Hollywood can’t stand more than anyone? Writers. You can go way back in time and ask F. Scott Fitzgerald and Dorothy Parker about that. It’s nothing new. Writers are the creators. And rather than fully collaborating with writers, much of Hollywood, especially the suits, think that all writers have is a lot of free time. Anyone could do what they do. And, secretly, I’m sure they all tried and found out it’s more than just free time that writers have. Which makes them loathe writers a little more. Need proof? Look at the last WGA strike. Or the one before that. And all the remakes Hollywood puts out (that no audiences have asked for). Do you think they’ve run out of original material? No. They’d just have to pay more for it. It’s absurd.

But that’s how most art is viewed. What it takes to create it is not understood, so it’s maligned. When some people see a Rothko, they think, “I could paint that.” Really? Go out and try. See? That’s where people get stuck. They don’t try. They’re afraid to create. Because it’s not that easy. Unless you’re in the flow.

All day, every day, everyone is creating. We are sculpting our lives, painting our futures, and hoping to rewrite our pasts. We just don’t see it as creating. We think it’s something that’s happening to us. Nope.

When you make a meal, what are you doing? When you assemble an outfit, what are you doing? When you exercise, what are you doing? When you host a party, what are you doing? Yes, you really are creating. And when you do it with one or more people, it’s co-creating.

Relationships are a good example of this, and a much less woo illustration.

If you’re in a good relationship, it’s a co-creation situation. You are looking out for each other, as well as the relationship. Because, in a relationship, one plus one equals three: You, Me and Us.

If you are in a not-so-wonderful relationship, it’s usually a competition. I did this so you should do that. I gave you this, now you give me that. One person carries the weight while the other does as little as they can get away with. There are no winners, though.

When we co-create in a relationship, we both have to want the best for the relationship, the third entity. And by that, it’s the best for you and me. If we want the relationship to be a success, we have to understand what’s best for the Us.
