This week, we’re going to talk about suffering — the needlessness of it, and how to let it go.

As I mentioned in The Importance of Self-Love: Suffering serves no purpose, unless we’re willing to learn from it. Let’s take that in for a moment. Suffering serves no purpose unless we are willing to learn from it.

Now, I’m going to separate suffering from grief here, because grief is a different animal altogether. So, what do I mean by suffering? It’s how we drag the past around with us, the shame that shadows us, the punishments we continue to inflict upon ourselves. It’s how we make ourselves feel we’re not worthy or loveable or deserving. Any of that familiar to you? Great! You’re super normal! LOL.

There’s also the suffering we’re enduring, with each day and every new headline. Assholes are really having a moment right now. And as one who prefers not to suffer fools, we’re sort of surrounded by them. Suffering is flooding us. So what do we do?

There are two things to start with. First is Perspective. We have to keep things in perspective for the sake of our sanity and all-around wellbeing. How do we do that when everything feels so big? Honestly, I think we’re all trying to figure that out right now, right? Again, super normal and totally human.

I break it down by what’s in my control and what’s out of my control.
